自分がやりたいことっていうのは、やってみないとわからないから難しい。どうせ、仕事をするならやりたいことをやりたいと思うのは必然だろう。だからといって、自分のやりたいことがもう見つかっているとも限らない。
最近思うことは、仕事をやる上で、何を目指したいかということより、その作業自体が好きかどうかということがかなり重要だということである。目指している理念が素晴らしくても、毎日のように繰り返す作業に耐えられなければ、最終到達地点に達することができず、意味をなさなくなってしまう。
しかし、自分の目指したいものがかなり明確に示されているならば、そのような苦痛を伴う仕事でも、精神力で乗り越えることができるだろう。どんなことをしても達成したい目標があれば、それを目指して人は頑張れるような気がする。
科学をやる人間も同じである。自分の目指すべき目標に向かって研究することは素晴らしい。しかし、現実は、後付けで考えたような目的を掲げて、既存のルールに沿ってゲームを楽しんでいるかのようである。ゲームから何か素晴らしいものが生まれることもあるだろう。まさに、そのゲームを楽しめれば、科学をやっていて辛いことがないのである。僕はこれ以上、このゲームに付き合いきれそうにない。今後、何か自分の信じられる検証可能な仮説を明瞭にすることができるか、正念場である。
