帰宅して、テレビをつけたら、放送大学で「学習科学とテクノロジー」という科目をやっているところに出くわした。放送大学の講義ってパッとしないので、何の講義なのか最初分からなかったが、アメリカ（かイギリス）で開発された学習支援ソフトウェアの紹介がされていて、それの効用について話しているようなのだ。講師は三宅なほみさん。今日の講義で紹介しているソフトはJasperというものらしく、小学生に数学を教えるためのもののようだ。問題がストーリ仕立てになっていて、子供が興味を持って取り組むことができるようになっており、なおかつ問題解決能力を身につけさせるような変わった問題から構成されている。僕がちょうど見ていたときは、リンドバーグが大西洋横断を果たしたときの飛行距離、燃費、燃料と時速が与えられていて、それらをもとに終着点であるパリに到達することができるかどうかを考えさせるのである。普通に計算すると、リンドバーグはパリに到達できる燃料を確保していなかったことが分かるのだが、実際には横断を達成しているわけで、じゃあ、他にどういう条件があればいいのかなどを考えさせる。追い風がいくら以上ないとダメだとかね。こういう問題に立ち向かうことで、算数の実用性も生きてくるし、たぶん子供も解いていて楽しいんじゃないかな。受験のために勉強したり、ただ学習指導要領をこなしているだけの日本の教育現状を考慮に入れると、このような環境に子供が学校で触れることは皆無に等しいが、本当の思考力を養わせてやりたいと願うなら、前向きにこのような学習法を検討せざるをえないだろう。なんかNPOでも設立して、独自に学習改革を推し進めていきたくなってきたな。
