今年最後の大イベント、マンドリン部の忘年会が新宿で盛大に催されました。どのくらいの規模になるかのまったく予想がつかなかったのですが、集合場所の西武新宿駅に行ってみると、20人以上の人が輪を作っているじゃありませんか。関東で働いている先輩や後輩が代を超えて集まれる機会は、こんなときしかないかもしれません。僕の一つ上の代から、３つ下の代まで、学年的に最大５つ離れたマンドリン部員たちが一堂に集結したのです。
懐かしい顔も珍しくありません。まだ仙台にいると思っていた後輩も、もう関東で就職し、仕事を持っている。なんか感慨深いものがありますね、みんなドンドン成長していきます。周りの時間が進むのはとても早く感じる。それに比べて、僕の中を流れる時間は比較的ゆっくりなようで、少し焦ったり不安になったりするのですが、これが僕のスタイルなんでしょう。自分は自分なりでいいはずですよね。僕は今のところ企業には就職しないと決めています。
宴の時間はあまりに楽しくて、気付いたらもう終電間際です。別れを惜しむまもなく、急いで電車に駆け込む姿を見て、近代に振り回されている生活を哀れみます。仙台で過ごした時間の中に自分の大切ものがあることを実感した一日でもありました。
